One of the most spectacular located cities in Spain, Ronda sits on a massive rocky outcrop, straddling a limestone cliff. Because of its impregnable position, this town was one of the last Moorish bastions, finally falling to the Christians in 1485. On the south side perches a classic Moorish white village of cobbled alleys, window grilles and dazzling whitewash. Most of the historic sights are in this part of town. Located in El Mercadillo, the newer town is one of the oldest bullrings in Spain.
Ronda’s Plaza de Toros is the spiritual home of bullfighting. Inaugurated in 1745, it is one of the oldest, most important bullrings in Spain. In September, aficionados travel from all over the country for the singular atmosphere of the Corrida Goyesca and millions watch in on television. It is the dream of every aspiring matador to fight at Ronda.
Ronda is a leisurely 45 minute drive from Marbella. Another popular white village is Mijas, which is a 15 drive from Marbella.
